I hawk Marie Antoinette (soundtrack).
The vocal, poppy songs are mediocre, bordering on loud and annoying. However, the soundtracks manages to achieve something extraordinary: A collection of thematically related, interesting classical music stuck somewhere between Baroque and Classical. It is a weird transition to hear the first handful of pop and then have your ears segue into a modern selection smörgåsbord of classical music. Thoroughly weird and entertaining; recommended to all. $14.99 on iTunes Store for 25 songs is a bargain.
Much, much later: I apologize, the term is New Wave, not poppy. It was my mistake to not look past the similarities in whiny voice, hip attitude, condescension, limited instrumental, idea recycling, and fighting the Man and see the differences, of which I am sure there are many.
Not “What Ever Happened” (spelling error excepted) by The Strokes though. Excellent interlude, whatever synthesized sound that is.
