Back when I had the “Does file sharing really hurt the music industry?” debate on IRC, the one argument I could not counter was the assertion that most people buy CDs after downloading their music. Zoom to today. One study shows 95% of teens copy music illegally. Now I’m guessing you don’t even know 100 people because you are on the internet, the CVS repository of loneliness. But suppose you did! Out of those 100 people, 95 of them illegally copy music. Out of those 95, you’d’ve to find me at least 42.5 people that buy music legally to compensate for their cowboy Jesus renegade piracy. You can’t do it.
